Let us introduce ourselves
Tired of religion, but thirsty for God, we are a group of people knowing we need Jesus' grace more than anything else. Believing Christ secured the most valuable gift for us on the cross as He said, "It is finished", we no longer strive to impress God or anyone else. Instead, we want all our relationships to reflect this grace from Jesus. Put simply, our mission is to enjoy Jesus' grace together.
Our roots began in 2007 when a group of Utah pastors began praying for where to start a new Bible-based church. They narrowed in on the growing community of Stansbury Park within Tooele County. The following summer, over 500 teenagers from the Evangelical Free Church's National Youth Conference laid the foundation by offering free labor for 31 families. This gift of free labor was the introduction for many to Waters Edge.
The pastors also invited Pete Kirchhoff and his family to move from Colorado to start the church. Their family received a warm welcome in the fall of 2008 as new friends helped unpack their bags and orient them to life in Utah. Several months later, Andy and Julie Nixon also moved from Iowa to help develop an initial teen ministry and worship team.
Interest grew as the church went public in 2009. During that winter, people began meeting to worship together on Sunday mornings at Stansbury Elementary. New friendships and small groups got started. Similar to the initial help from hundreds of teens, mission teams from churches in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Illinois helped set-up for the services, play in the band, and teach the kids.
A day after helping with bounce houses and hosting skate competitions at Stansbury Days, Waters Edge officially launched on Sunday, August 23rd, 2009. Many celebrated with us at the new Oquirrh Mill location. This was a great "starter home", before moving a year later to Stansbury High. The Tooele Chamber of Commerce helped christen this present location with a ribbon cutting on September 12th, 2010. The school's staff has continued to be very hospitable in helping provide this great place for weekly worship.
